RUGBY COMES TO BEACON!
The Hudson Valley Rebels won their home-opener this past
Saturday over the North Jersey Rugby Club with a score of
13 - 3, debuting their new home field in Beacon, NY.
The Rebels found themselves defending within their own end
as North Jersey tried to wear down our pack despite strong
tackling by Man of the Match recipient Michael Greenblatt
of Highland and Ryan Bells of Washingtonville. Turnovers
and penalties kept the game scoreless for most of the 1st
half until Jonathan Jones of Highland striked on a penalty
kick from 30 meters out to give the Rebels a 3 - 0 lead.
North Jersey would come back and put up 3 points of their own on a penalty kick just before half.
The Rebels cleaned up their pod play with multiple phase
ball and maintaining posession but highlighted the day with
scrum turnovers. The forwards gave the Rebels their first
try of the day fighting for the last few meters and putting the
Rebels up 8 - 3.
The Rebel backline would add to the score with several
fingertip passes to get the ball into the waiting hands
of newcomer, Kieran Killeen of Pamona who took the ball
in for the Hudson Valley's last score as they went onto
to win 13 - 3.
The Rebels are now 2 - 0 on the season as they host the New
York American Rugby Club this Saturday in Beacon.
